HUNTINGTON BEACH –The Navy League Newport Beach Council has made a special and lasting presentation to 48th District Congressman Dana Rohrabacher for his long support of the U.S. military.    The event took place May 1st at the Congressman’s Huntington Beach office, highlighted by the presentation of the Council’s signature 20 mm shell that had been hand-polished, laser-etched and prepared by members of the Navy League Newport Beach Council.

The shell had been fired from the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), from its Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) with its precision-guided radar designed to take down incoming enemy aircraft or missiles – firing at a sustained rate of more than 60 rounds per second!  Congressman Rohrabacher was also given a large color photograph of the USS Carl Vinson passing Point Loma, sailors manning the rails while returning to San Diego from its most recent deployment. In an accompanying Navy League message, Newport Beach Council President Mark Miller said, “this unique gift is in recognition of Rohrabacher’s strong and dedicated support for our nation’s great military.”

Joining in the presentations were Council Vice-President Chris Chocek, and Board members Irv Cuevas, Bert Ohlig, and Newport Beach Council Founder Wally Ziglar. The Navy League Newport Beach Council has also prepared a similar 20 mm shell for presentation to President Donald Trump for his strong support of our nation’s military forces.
